My sweet niece, Myla, came into the world in September. I love her so much already and loved her the instant I met her. She is such a sweet baby and is such a little people person already. She loves to lay on your chest, stare into your eyes, and giggle/flirt. As I said, I love her.

So when she was born, I wanted her to have a little blanket. Kala (my sister in law) did her room in coral, gold, mint, and navy. She did such a great job with it and it totally reflects Kala's awesome style. I wanted the blanket to match her room so that it wasn't something Kala felt like she needed to keep in a drawer.

The act of making a baby blanket is so special to me. The hours spent making each stitch - it feels like an act of praying over that baby and her life. Knowing the blanket will keep her warm and bring her comfort - it's like getting to know her and take care of her before she was even here.

This is definitely a pattern I'll use again. The blanket is perfect for a stroller or carseat - it's big enough to cover her and keep her warm but not so big that it takes up too much space.

I really like the way this pattern lays - the way the blanket naturally ripples.

I used this pattern from eat, knit & diy and highly recommend it if you want to make your own.

So a friend asked me to make a burlap happy birthday banner for her family. She wanted something that was gender neutral, that she could use year after year, and that would go in any room. This is what I came up with:

Each flag is about 5 inches x 4 inches and is two layers of burlap thick. The letters are cut out of fabric and then stitched onto the burlap.

I then stitched around each flag, trimmed up the fraying edges, strung the flags together with jute, and called it a day! A little tip is to use some mod podge on the edges of the flags to keep them from fraying. This is a banner that my friend wants to use year after year so I kept durability in mind.

I'm loving this color combo and think I might need to make one for my own home! :)

If you want me to make one for you, let me know!

Oh, and now that I'm kinda addicted to making burlap banners (as if I needed another craft addiction), I'm thinking I'm going to make some for Christmas. Anyone interested??

Oh man. Matt and I went back and forth so many times with what Jonathan should be for Halloween this year. You see, this is the last year that we'll be able to pick his costume. We wanted it to be something that reflected this stage and something he'd love.

At first, we were going to do Mater. Our boy loves him some Mater. We were collecting supplies and getting ready to make it and then went to Disneyland for the weekend. We took him on his favorite ride, Winnie the Pooh, and he got to meet Pooh, Tigger, and Eeyore. He gave them hugs, called them friends, and was seriously over the moon the whole time.

While on the ride, Jonathan was sandwiched between Matt and I and pointed to each character, screamed their name, sang along to the music...he was in heaven. I took one look at Matt over Jonathan's sweet fuzzy head and said, "Winnie the Pooh. He has to be Pooh."

You see, the thing is that he is so sweet. He is a toddler and definitely all boy but he still seems so little and has such a sweet spirit. I wanted to look back on this Halloween and remember him that way. We'll have plenty to come where he can do all of the big boy stuff.

So this post probably seems rather sappy for a Halloween post. But really, it all felt like so much more to us. We are trying to soak up this stage with our little guy and my momma heart can't handle the fact that he's getting so big!

Yesterday I saw About Time and I loved it. Go see it. But the theme is totally about enjoying the everyday parts of life. To see beauty all around you and soak up what matters. It was beautiful. And this is so where I am at. Some things have been hard but I am soaking up this life. This stage we are in, my amazing husband, my precious boy. All of it.

Triangles are all the rage right now and I for one am loving this trend. It's the perfect combination of graphic and bold but still playful.

These cards are the smallest size I have - 4 1/4" x 3 7/8". The triangles are hand cut out of washi and glitter tape. They are coral, navy, mint, and gold. And this color combo?? In love.

So it's starting to kinda feel like fall here in Southern California. We had a day of rain (eeeek!!!) and it's been chilly at night and in the morning. AND, of course I'm sure you have all noticed, the best part of the fall.....the salted caramel mocha is back!! LOVE.

So in honor of this glorious season and in an effort to trick myself into believing it is actually fall, here is my new gold leaf stationery.

I'm loving the gold leaf sewn onto the double washi tape stripe.

I've said it once, I'll say it again...gift giving is so fun for me. One of my favorite parts is the wrapping. I'm always looking for ways to use what I have on hand and this week, my fabric scraps were calling to me. Let me explain.

My church, Christian Assembly in Eagle Rock, has an outstanding Women's Bible Study. It has truly been life changing for me. As a stay at home mom, I have found those moments of gathering to worship, learn, and spend time with out another to be such a highlight in my week.

I'm a part of a table of women who support one another, learn from one another, and really love one another well. Our table leader (love you, Jacquie!) is the icing on the cake to such a great experience. If not for her and her constant love and support, our table wouldn't be even close to the same.

In our session last week, we were discussing how to show love to our family, friends, and neighbors and I felt so convicted about the neighbors part. We moved into our home almost a year ago and I barely know my neighbors at all. I don't think I've even exchanged any words with most of them! Although this is typical California culture with neighbors, it's not how I want to be! Sure I love privacy as much as the next person (well, probably more) but I really feel like I want our home to be a place that radiates Jesus' love. I especially want to model this for my little guy.

So last week Jonathan and I made pumpkin bread. Well, I made it and he pretended to put spices in while playing with lots of flour. And I made seven loaves of pumpkin bread and was ready to pass them out and then realized I didn't bake them long enough and the middles were all mush. I dramatically dumped them each, one at a time, into our trash can.

That's it, I decided. Done with this little project. Or not. The idea didn't leave my mind so I gathered supplies this week and made 4 loaves. I kept one for us (and Jonathan has already finished it!) and Jonathan and I took the other three out yesterday. We handed two out to neighbors and with no one else home, I gave the extra loaf to my brother and his wife who just brought home their sweet baby.

I'm not done though. We are going to make more and keep passing them out until I've met more neighbors!

So here are my little loaves of pumpkin bread wrapped in fabric.

I owe a big thank you to my mom and dad for sitting me down after every Christmas and birthday and making me write thank you notes. I'm not being sarcastic - I really am thankful. I am so appreciative of this because I still to this day write thank you cards. And unfortunately I think it's a lost art. We move so fast from one thing to the next and we rarely sit down to pull out a nice card, grab our favorite pen (preferably an ink roller), summon our pretty hand writing, and jot a thank you note. My grandma wrote not just thank cards but notes in general and I kept many of them. What a special thing it is to have her sweet handwriting and kind words always.

So, am I making you feel like you need some thank you notes of your own yet?!?!? Here you go!

Ok so my brother and his wife are having a baby. A baby girl. Like any day now. CAN'T WAIT!! This will be the first baby girl in our family and we all couldn't be more excited. Leggings, headbands, ruffles, RUFFLE BUTTS, need I say more??

To celebrate their transition, I helped her friends throw a baby shower for the happy couple. Since it was a couples shower, we went more with a party theme and less of a baby theme.

The baby's room is coral, mint, gold and navy so we knew these had to be the colors for the shower.

I don't have a ton of images right now but as I get more, I'll be sure to share them here. Drumroll please.....

Aren't those jars fun? One of the girls had this idea and I just love how they turned out. We took mason jars, spray painted them, and then painted them with a mod podge/glitter mixture. Another friend did the flowers and they are to die for. Flower arranging is one skill I don't have so I'm super impressed.

Here's a view from my family room. We had the whole party in the backyard. We moved basically my whole house out there and then borrowed a bunch of furniture too. That's one of my favorite things about living in Southern California - summer nights are a dream and I love summer night backyard parties. Trying saying that four times fast.

Have you ever take that love languages quiz?? Gift giving is number one for me. It's how I show love and how I receive it. And it has nothing to do with how expensive or extravagant the gift is. I just like to know that I am thought about and known. When Matt comes home with a pack of orange tic tack for me, my heart immediately swells. He knows that I love me some orange tic tack (let's not talk about how fast I consume said pack) and I love knowing that when he saw them in line at the market, he thought about me.

One of my favorite things about gift giving is the wrapping. I think that a great wrapping job seriously makes a present. Opening a really pretty package is a gift in and of itself. I rarely buy the standard gift bag/card because I really enjoy creating unique wrapping and to be honest, it's usually much cheaper to do a diy wrapping job. Grab a roll of kraft wrapping paper to meet every gift giving need and then add personal touches. And a tag. That's a must.

Ok so I am seriously freaking out. The lovely Sarah Scheidler took pictures of the cards, tags, and notepads that I have ready to add to my shop and I am in love with them! Eeeek! I am really happy with the designs I have to share with you and couldn't be more happy with her point of view in photographing them. So, without further ado, here is my first release. I have shared this design before but of course had to share these pictures.

So this whole year Jonathan has loved Winnie the Pooh. All things Winnie the Pooh. It started when my grandpa gave him a Winnie the Pooh book and little sound toy thingy. He loved it. Then he went on the ride at Disneyland. He LOVED that and the obsession began. Books, the movie, a pooh bear stuffed animal, little rubber toys, listening to the songs until my eyes go crossed....we are full on obsessed. So, as he approached his second birthday, it just made sense to have a pooh bear party. Little did I know that it was hard to find Winnie the Pooh party stuff unless it's for a baby shower or first birthday. Darn. Plan B? I'll make it all and turn it into a Pooh bear/honey party.

Pooh was waiting at the door to greet guests. This Pooh is so special because he used to be Auntie Val's when she was a little girl. Red balloons were placed throughout the house because if you remember the story well, Pooh used a red balloon to float up to a beehive to try to steal honey. What a little trickster. :)

Each kid got a red balloon and an adorable beehive cookie as a take away gift. The cookies were made by Cookies by Heidi and you guys, she's seriously amazing. The detail in her work is incredible and they were sooo yummy. If you need cookies for any event (or just make something up because they are that good), check her out!

The spread. This was a morning party so we had breakfast foods - a couple of egg bakes, monkey bread, make your own parfaits with fresh fruit, bagels, and honeycomb cereal. That adorable vintage Winnie the Pooh chair was a birthday present for Jonathan from our dear friend Lindy. She also made that sweet little silhouette of my boy's face. Thanks, Lindy!!

I'm also making custom banners so if you have a special occasion coming up, let me know!

My sweet little boy, I can't believe you are two! It feels like just yesterday you were coming into this world.

You have been a joy to us from the second you were born. There were some rough patches in the beginning when we were both learning but we figured it all out. You and me (and Dadda) found our rhythm, learned each others' nature, and found our new, wonderful normal (a normal that changed every two weeks when you were little).

Then your little personality started showing. Mimi and Papa said you were just like your dadda when he was a little guy. Always moving. Always jumping. You would sit still just to focus very intently on something and then jump up and run in circles.

Winnie the Pooh is also a joy of yours. All of the characters from the Hundred Acre Wood are your little buddies. We pray for Pooh, "Pippet", Eeyore, Tigger, Kanga, and Roo on a daily basis. Somehow Owl and Rabbit haven't made the cut but I don't blame you...they are kinda annoying.

Then you found your love for transportation. Oh what a love this is. All things cars, trucks, trains, boats, planes, etc. is your life! You run out to see the garbage truck, squeal with delight every time you see a firetruck or ambulance, and yell "car!" or "truck!" over and over again when we are on the road. Oh the joy it brings me to hear and see your excitement.

You love to give kisses and hugs. You smile at me and say "I love you" and "Proud of you" throughout the day. Oh how my heart sings to hear you say those precious words. You scream "AMEN!!" when we pray and delight in singing and music. You dance around the house and have your little friends (cars, trucks, trains, pooh characters, etc.) dance with you. Of course you are a two year old and just like you feel happy emotions so strongly, you feel all other emotions with equal force. Sure, you have your share of temper tantrums and there are days when we both look frazzled when Dadda comes home, but I know we are just finding our rhythm once again. You are learning how you feel and how to express those feelings and I'm learning right along with you.

My precious boy, you are a delight to my life and to the lives of those around you. I thank God daily for blessing me with being your momma. Dadda and I love you more than words can ever express and could not be more proud of you. Although my heart aches that you are growing up so fast, it sings with how much I love you and who you are.

So I love podcasts. I love them way more than listening to music. My phone is LOADED up with them. I listen to them as much as humanly possible but it's usually when I'm doing the dishes or cooking. They make me look forward to those times. So, I thought I'd do a little roundup of my favorites. If you have any that you like, do share. I'm always looking for a new show because like watching old shows on Netflix, I get addicted and then listen to like 100 episodes and then go through withdrawals.

1. Joy the Baker - Oh my gosh. I just LOVE this podcast. Joy from Joy the Baker and Tracy from Shutterbean chat about all things. They do talk a bit about cooking but mostly you just feel like you are hanging out with two of your friends chatting it up. They are soo hilarious....I may have made Matt come into the kitchen and listen to bits and pieces a time or two...or like every time. I'm pretty sure we'd all be BFFs in person.

2. This American Life - I've been listening to this one forever and I still thoroughly enjoy it. I am so excited every Monday morning when it magically appears on my phone. Matt listens to it too so we always talk about it and get way too invested in the stories. Basically, it's a super well produced story telling radio program. Sometime the stories come from headline news and sometimes they are super small. Either way, they are incredibly well written and always give a new, untold perspective.

3. Simple Mom - I found this one through Joy the Baker. Tsh from Simple Mom hosts this podcast and has a regular line up of co-hosts. They discuss mostly parenting and mom issues but much of it is about simplifying, giving yourself grace, and general parenting encouragement. I really enjoy this podcast and bring a lot of it into my everyday life. It's perfect for when I'm frazzled from a long day with the little guy.

4. Paperclipping Roundtable - This is the podcast that got me addicted to podcasts! Noell is the host and every week she has different guests from the memory keeping/scrapbooking/craft industry. They discuss everything from scrapbook techniques to how to tell a deeper story. It's a lot of fun to listen to and helps me think about story telling more.

5. The Kitchen Hour - I discovered this podcast recently and got through all of the episodes really quickly - there are only 10 and I'm hoping Meagin Francis continues to make more. She made this podcast for people to listen to while they are in the kitchen getting dinner ready - as a way to make that time more fun. She mostly talks about mothering but also discusses being on a budget, cooking tips, etc.

I also listen to anything from NPR, We're About To Be Friends, and Adventures in Arting.

Do you have any podcasts you'd suggest???

Last summer, Matt made this wonderful kiddie car wash for Jonathan's first birthday. The other kids LOVED it but he was a little apprehensive.

We quickly learned that the first birthday party is a little more for the parents and less for the one year old. He would've been just as happy (or maybe more) playing with his toys by himself at that point.

So after the party, we stashed the carwash in a friend's garage because we were in a condo with minimal storage. Fast forward a year, we are now in a house with a garage of our own and the carwash was returned to us (thanks for keeping it so long, Beth and Ed!!).

It was a hot morning and we decided to bust it out.

Look at that face!!! I'd say he is a little more interested this year! He had sooo much ... as did Matt and I. And he had to bring ah - ah (the monkey) along for the ride.

Here's a pretty good shot of the whole thing. We don't have the sponges this year but honestly, with the little tykes truck, it's not as necessary. It comes apart into two parts for easy, flat storage.

So if you know me at all, you know about my current obsession with Shauna Niequist. I know I am not alone in this. I see people everywhere doing little book/food clubs for her newest book, Bread & Wine, and can I just say I'm super jealous! I want to be in such a club!

Anyway, I digress... so she is just amazing. She has a way of putting into words exactly how I am feeling and I swear she speaks right to my heart. In Bread and Wine, she has a chapter called Enough. The chapter is kinda a combination of two blog posts part one here and part two here. At the end of the chapter, she says, "I'm practicing believing that God knows more than I know, that he sees what I can't, that he's weaving a future I can't even imagine from where I sit this morning."

It's the practicing believing part that hits me. It's not that she already believes this and it's just second nature to her. It is that she is practicing believing.

Oh this is so where I am at. My head knows that God has a plan, that he loves me more than I can ever understand, and that in knowing this I can rest secure. But really? Actually resting secure?? That is what is hard for me. It's hard when the shit hits the fan and life is harder than you expected. It's hard when you expect to be feeling better but you're still struggling. It's hard when all around you the world is moving forward but you're still grieving. It's just hard. And yes, I have many a good day in there and then wham! I'm back to a place of deep sadness.

But it's the practicing part that still hits me. I've had to say God's promises out loud to remind me that they are true. I've had to voice them over and over into the air so that I hear them.

Jesus loves me.

Jesus sees me.

Jesus hasn't forgotten about me.

And it's true. And this practicing believing these truths, promises that in my gut I know are true, it's the practicing that is making all of the difference. It's the physically clothing myself with these truths that are making them real.

So I say to you:

Jesus loves you.

Jesus sees you.

Jesus hasn't forgotten about you.

There are all different types of moms. Moms that LOVE the baby stage, the toddler stage, the kid stage, and I've even heard the teenage stage is wonderful although I'm terrified of it. There are moms that love being pregnant and moms that hate it and I know that so much of this has to do with experience. Some of my friends have the unfortunate situation of being so sick their entire pregnancy that it's hard to celebrate. I had many food aversions and felt yucky the first trimester but all in all, I loved being pregnant.

While I've loved every stage so far and wouldn't make Jonathan a baby again, a part of me misses those days. My favorite moment is when J heard my voice and looked at me for the fist time. Pure bliss. It's an amazing connection right out of the gate... I miss snuggling with him and holding him close for hours on end. My heart literally aches to have him all bundled up on my chest. My arms feel empty because I want to hold him all day long.

My JJ is seriously the sweetest boy ever. He has an amazing heart, tells me "I love you" all of the time, loves to get kisses for his booboos, has more energy and life than I knew possible, loves to give kisses (tiss!!) and hugs, and is the happiest person I know (or maybe tied with Matt).

And while I would never trade this wonderful bundle of personality for anything, oh how I long to hold a baby in my arms. Maybe that's why I rock him extra long at night, sing as many rounds of "moon moon" as I can, give him as many kisses as he'll let me, and cuddle as much as possible.

And as this has been spinning around in my head for awhile, I read this post by The Tiny Twig and it resonated so deep in my soul. I'm a creator. I love the creation of a new life and discovering that life. I love the anticipation and meeting a new person. And I'm reminded that this discovery process is just beginning. I have an entire lifetime left of discovering who my boy is and loving the socks off of him. I'm pretty darn excited about that.

Ok, y'all. This is going to be photo heavy. But I'm not going to apologize because I've gotta do this birthday celebration justice!

So apparently Matt had a planning session with my friends back in March. Yes, March. How great is he for having a planning session and how great are my friends for wanting to be involved and help plan a fun celebration for me? I'm one lucky lady. So this is how the weekend went:

Awhile back I got a couple of amazing handmade invitations in the mail to reserve Friday June 7th and Saturday June 8th. No details were given just a reservation. I was soooo excited already!

Didn't they do an amazing job?!

So I was picked up after lunch on Friday and we headed off to..... THE PARKER in Palm Springs!!! You. Guys. This place is soooo fabulous. It was all designed by Jonathan Adler and is sooo funky and fun. I had been dropping some major hints to Matt for awhile and he definitely picked up on them. Friday and Saturday were filled with swimming, a yummy dinner, drinks poolside, a couple of Starbucks trips, and best of all, great chats with my girls. Man, I feel so lucky to have such great friends and such a loving husband who planned all of this for us.

So I knew that something was going down on Saturday night and when we were on our way home, the girls said they wanted to go get drinks first. We stopped by The Raymond and when we walked in, my parents were sitting there! So my parents live in Atlanta and I had no idea they were coming out! It was one of those weird moments where I almost didn't recognize them because I was so surprised. My friends left and I had a couple hours to hang out with just my parents. It was great to be able to see them... I was missing them on my birthday so this was perfect. Once again, so blessed to have such wonderful parents who would fly out for the weekend even though I'd be gone for half of it! Love them.

So we pull up to my house and....Matt threw a surprise party for me in the backyard! He DID AN AMAZING JOB. There is an Abney saying, "Go big or go home" and he took it to heart. The driveway was lined with balloons that were strung with baker's twine. This man has been listening to me! He knows my love for baker's twine and disdain (maybe a little strong) for balloon ribbon. He had a whole color scheme that I've been into - gold, coral, minty blue....it was gorgeous. He created this beautiful chalkboard with pictures of me and a place for people to leave me a note. When I saw it I thought surely one of my friends helped him with it. Nope! He did it all on his own.

I am seriously in awe of my sweet husband. The weekend he planned, the party he created, all of the details were so me. Sweetie - I love you more than words can say and still feel so loved and special from my birthday weekend. Mom and Dad - thank you for flying all of the way out to see me and help with the party! I feel so honored. My friends - thank you for an amazing weekend away and for celebrating me! I'm so lucky to have such great friends. Andy & Kala - thanks for watching my boy so Matt could pull this off! And to everyone who helped me celebrate - thank you for being a part of my life! I'm so blessed. Love y'all.

Thirty. I'm thirty. This birthday was hard and wonderful all at the same time. I've been learning that is how life is. Sure, there are seasons that are characterized more by sorrow or more by joy but it seems like more often than not, they are all mixed together.

Have you ever heard of Shauna Niequist? She is a fabulous author and her book Bittersweet is pretty much exactly where I'm at. Have you ever read a book and thought that it was written just for you? Yeah, that's how I feel about this book. She sums up much more eloquently than I'm able that in the tough times, you can find pieces of joy and in happiness, suffering and pain still exists. I can sometimes be a little black and white and this concept has been revolutionary for me. Life is sorrow and joy all mixed together and God uses both times to teach us, love us, and draw us nearer to him.

But back to my 30th.... it fell right in the middle of a tough time but was seriously exactly what I needed. I needed to say goodbye to my 20's and start afresh. I needed to get out of my head and space and be around family and friends and celebrate. I'm going to share much more about all that happened over the last couple of weeks because really, it deserves a couple posts on its own. I'll just say I have an amazing husband who celebrates me, loves me, takes care of me, and spoils me rotten. I have a wonderful family and incredible friends who take care of me and love me. So thankful for them. So blessed.

You might notice that I'm speaking a little more from the heart and not just sharing my latest crafting pics. You can expect more of that here. As I approached my birthday, that is something that I kept thinking about over and over again. I feel ready to be more open and honest and share more freely what's going on in my life...both the good and bad. So thank you for reading.

One of my favorite clients had me make congratulations cards to give to new parents. She wanted boy themed, girl themed, and gender neutral themed cards. I had a blast making these and am thinking of making more to post in my etsy shop.... what do you think??

I'm just popping in to share some pictures of a recent baby book I made. Enjoy! :)

Here's the cover. I used the SNAP binder and it worked perfectly. I just added some gold and cream twine and was done.

The binders come with some patterned paper (like the polka dot below) and I used Elise Blaha Cripe's Project Life patterned paper to supplement. For the first page, I sewed on a small sheet with the birth information.

Ok so it's no secret that I am in love with paper. I mean seriously in love, makes my hand sweat, in love. I love making paper products, collecting journals I never use, wrapping pencils in paper, buying thank you cards (the art of letter writing is not lost on me), using only my paper calendar, scribbling lists on paper pads, writing out my grocery list, etc. Basically, we live in an age of technology and I can't get enough writing instead of typing.

Enter: minted. This place is awesome. I can spend entire nap times perusing through the endless pages of picture cards, stationery, address labels, and art prints. Major drool. Here are some of my favorites that I've spotted recently.
